A cottage nestled amongst tall trees behind a fence
On the reverse (A-075-020-2) is a Silverstream landscape with tall trees in a field, hills in the background and a fence and trees beyond the field. This watercolour was covered by the backing board until the work underwent conservation. It has framer's notes in pencil in the sky.
The artists' cottage at Silverstream was known as Pumpkin Cottage. It was used as a retreat and studio by a number of Wellington artists originally grouped around James McLaughlan Nairn. By the date of this work, ownership of the cottage had passed to Nugent Welch
