Description: One side of the sheet shows a map of Wellington, with numbers to show the location of studios. A key alongside shows the name, address and small portrait photograph of the artist. The other side of the sheet has a larger photograph of each artist. Description: A small cottage set against tall trees, pasture in the foreground and hills in the background On the reverse is a further watercolour, uncovered during conservation. It is dated 26. 8. 23 and may show Upper Hutt, viewed through trees. Several red-roofed houses are in the background. Attribution based on style of three other signed works donated at the same time and by the same donor. The suggestion that the cottage may be Pumpkin Cottage is based on another work with a title showing Pumpkin Cottage from the same accession. Description: Photographs chiefly relating to artist Gordon Crook, particularly images of him, his home, studio, flowers in his garden, and tapestry work, taken from circa 1990 to circa 2003. (Note however that four art works have creation dates of 1955, 1966/67, about 1979 and 1992). Some have notes written by Crook on the backs. Eight relate particularly to the Victorian Tapestry Workshop in Melbourne, Australia. Some photographs taken by Crook, other photographers unidentified. Comprises: Eight relating to Derum and the Victorian Tapestry Workshops (VTW) in Melbourne, Australia, taken 1993 and circa 1993. Images show a tapestry of a montage with Derum, weaver Cheryl Thornton, and Joy Smith. Further images show (students?) working at the VTW including [Grazyua Bleya ?] weaving 'Maritimes'. Six images of Crook and others at the City Art Gallery in Wellington, in Dec 1993, during the retrospective exhibition of Crook's works, curated by Derum. Images include Edith Ryan, 'Eddie', and Derum. 23 are taken of and around Crook's house at 119 Aro Street, Wellington, including his studio which was under renovation. Also many of flowers inside and in his garden. Two probably taken inside the Begonia House, Botanical Gardens, Wellington. Five showing him and/or others. Only identified person is Edith Ryan at the Arts Council office. Six comprising buildings, sculpture, the pine tree at One Tree Hill, Auckland. 15 of art works (all? by Crook), particularly tapestries, dated 1955, 1966/67, about 1979 and 1992. Also (1990s?) photographs of tapestries under construction and decorated envelopes created by Crook for letters addressed to Jim and Mary Barr. Quantity: 65 colour original photographic print(s). Description: A cottage nestled amongst tall trees behind a fence On the reverse (A-075-020-2) is a Silverstream landscape with tall trees in a field, hills in the background and a fence and trees beyond the field. This watercolour was covered by the backing board until the work underwent conservation. It has framer's notes in pencil in the sky. The artists' cottage at Silverstream was known as Pumpkin Cottage. It was used as a retreat and studio by a number of Wellington artists originally grouped around James McLaughlan Nairn. By the date of this work, ownership of the cottage had passed to Nugent Welch Other Titles - Pumpkin Cottage Inscriptions: Recto - bottom left - J. L. PALETHORPE (in brushpoint). Title in pencil. Description: Shows Van der Velden's cottage as it appeared in 1967 from Karaka Bay Road. The wooden house has a red iron roof and a brick chimney at the back. A woman passes by carrying a bag. There is a telegraph pole in the foreground. This cottage was built by Newtown pharmacist John Castle at 385 Karaka Bay Road for weekend use, around 1900. Rented around 1905 by Van der Velden. Removed from the site or demolished in April 1999. Inscriptions: Verso - centre - [Title]; Recto - bottom left - Fred R. Alexander / 67 Quantity: 1 oil(s). Physical Description: Oil on canvas, 250 x 310 mm. Provenance: Previously owned by Zillah Castle and family (given to her by the artist in December 1969), and exhibited prior to that, in the National Art Gallery's Van der Velden exhibition in April 1968.
