- Description
The Moutoa Memorial which was erected in memory of pro-Government Maori who fell in the battle at Moutoa Island, 14 May 1864. Inscription reads: "To the memory of those brave men who fell at Moutoa, 14 May 1864, in defence of law and order against fanaticism and barbarism. This monument is erected by the Province of Wellington". In the background the premises of the Carbine Livery and Bait Stables are visible. Photographed by A P Godber.
