Images comprise: - Copies of a pencil drawing of Rakuraku Rehua by an unidentified artist. - Memorial to Jean Guerren at Te Poronu. - Signs on corrugated iron at the entrance to the Tuhoe area, at the confiscation line, Ruatoki. Description: Comprises small cardboard cover photograph album containing scenes of New Plymouth. Taken by unidentified photographer(s) on Easter 1927 during a family visit by Hazel C Vaughan (nee Jackson). Probably some views were taken by Hazel. Photographs show scenes around New Plymouth and include: views of Pukekura Park and the Poet's Bridge; Kawaroa Park; and buildings on Courtenay Street including the 'Round house' and other buildings in New Plymouth. The album also includes photographs of battle sites and war memorials for the New Zealand Wars (referred to in the album as the Maori Wars) and the South African Boer wars. Album also includes images of indentified people in and around New Plymouth, and shows an scene from a rugby game at Pukekura Park, images of St. Mary's Church, and views of rural countryside, possibly a family homestead, described in the album as 'Old farm', paddocks, and school house. Album also includes an image of boating on the Mokau River, and a view of the bridge. The album is annotated by Hazel C Jackson (later Vaughan). Description: A group of photographs taken by Jock Phillips and Chris MacLean which depict New Zealand war memorials relating to the New Zealand Wars of the mid to late 19th century (also known as the Land Wars). Slides are annotated with the name of the war or conflict and a location. Includes slide photographs taken of black and white photographs taken circa 1920s which relate to the war memorials. Record title is taken from the common title written on the labels of the 15 original slide boxes. Arrangement: Photographs were delivered in 15 small slide boxes which were labelled "New Zealand Wars" then a number, a list of locations, and the names of the photographers. The boxes were numbered three to sixteen (with a 13 and a 13A). The numbering sequence appears to start with the group of slides labelled "Inter Tribal" and numbered one and two. The original arrangement of name of the conflict, number, and name(s) of locations and order of the individual slides has been preserved by the archivist. Jock Phillips and Chris MacLean took many photographs of the war memorials while travelling throughout New Zealand by car. Quantity: 482 colour original transparency/ies. Description: A group of photographs taken by Jock Phillips and Chris MacLean which depict New Zealand war memorials and related objects or locations relating to the New Zealand Wars, Inter-tribal wars; and the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902 (or Boer War or South African War). The majority of individual slides mounts are annotated with the name of the war or conflict, and the place name of the memorial depicted. Some are annotated with names of associated persons. Record title is supplied by the Library. Arrangement: Photographs were delivered in one box containing three sequences of small slide boxes which were labelled with the name of the war or conflict, a sequential number, a location, and the names "Chris MacLean" and "Jock Phillips". One sequence was titled "Boer War" and boxes were numbered one to nine. One sequence was labelled "Inter Tribal" and boxes were numbered one and two. One sequence was labelled "New Zealand Wars" and numbered three to 16 (this numerical sequence appears to augment from the "Inter Tribal" sequence). The original order of the three sequences and of individual photographs within each slide box has been preserved by the archivist.
