- Description
Shows 3 Maori on slope overlooking Paroa bay, huts to the left in middle ground. There is a large tree-fern in the left foreground and hills across the bay in the background. The 3 Maori are all men and all have the topknot hairstyle. A small boat with a sail, probably from Dumont D'Urville's ship the Astrolabe, is pulled up at the shore and several people are visible around it and on board.
Korokoro was the chief of the Paroa Bay Maori and died in 1823. This view shows his former "country house", presumably outside the walls of his pa Kahuwera, located at Paroa Bay, Bay of Islands
