- Description
Shows a huge scaffold-like structure that stands in front of a half-built house. It has the words 'Council Compliance costs' painted on the weather-proofing material that is stretched across the structure. In various parts of the structure are piles of documents labelled 'Leaky building regulations' 'Dodgy developers' and 'Litigation' and several people are sitting in the structure also. On the top of the structure is a man feeding documents down a pipe and down below another man, Shane Jones, Minister for Building and Construction, starts to pull the structure down saying 'Problem solved'. Refers to the high cost, frustration and length of time required to get council compliance for buildings. At the end of March 2008 Shane Jones announced plans to slash red tape in the building industry and provide a simpler, more flexible consents process for starter homes.
