Shows Mt Egmont in the background, with the Tataraimaka Ranges, bush and the houses of Omata, especially Fernlea, the McKellar family residence, a two-storied house at the edge of the bush to the right. Fenced fields are in front of the houses
The McKellars, the artist's family, lived at Fernlea from 1852.Georgina Hetley moved to 'Brookwood' at Omata, her husband's farm on her marriage in 1856, moving back to her mother at Fernlea after her widowhood in 1857, and the sale of Brookwood in 1859.
