Shows Maori on beach, flag flying from hotel (owned by Mr & Mrs Suisted at the time of painting) with a billiard room and Freemasons' hall projecting from the north end of the hotel and a house beyond belonging to Messrs Dorset & Sutton, called Medical Hall. The hills in the distance are the Eastern Hutt hills. 2 jetties on the beach

Barrett's Hotel was located in several positions over the years. This one was at the north end of Lambton Quay, near Molesworth St
