The bishop tells him that the church cannot be seen to be encouraging its people to vote one way or another and so the priest must lose the plastic whale before his next sermon. Catholic bishops have issued a checklist to guide their flock in the up-coming 2008 election, setting out the Church's stance on abortion, same-sex parenting, medical research on embryos, and euthanasia. The bishops state that the Catholic Church is apolitical.
