Farmhouse, paddock with sheep, and (family?) group, Canterbury, photographed circa 1910s by Steffano Francis Webb.
"Cabbage trees (ti kouka), such as those on the left, were among the native plants that were popular in gardens in the late nineteenth century. New Zealand flaxes (harakeke), tree ferns, and "nigger heads" (carex) were the others. The upper storey of this villa was possibly a later addition because it is clad in the "new" fibre asbestos boards and with battens. It also has painted stick "framing" on the gable. The flush bay windows are triple opening double-hung with fanlights at the top of those in the lower storey." (Information taken from caption used in "Darling, I'm home!" display).
