Description: Sheet of testimonials from residents in Dunedin, Nelson, Wanganui, Christchurch, Gisborne, Napier, and other New Zealand towns (none from Australia), commenting positively on crayon portraits drawn from family photographs by A Tanquerey esquire. Testimonial writers had responded to Tanquerey's offer to copy portraits for free, and sent family portraits by mail. This is an example of a testimonials flyer widely distributed from 23 Rue de Hambourg, Paris, and regarded as a hoax or scam. Crayon enlargements of family portrait photographs were offered free but along the line, money for postage and framing was demanded, to ensure the receipt of the original photograph and the crayon copy. Newspapers of the time commented about it widely; for example see the Press, 22 June 1905, Page 8; and New Zealand Truth's comment in its issue of 11 January 1908, Page 4 Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s).
