Description: Contains architectural studies and miscellaneous engravings and portraits (some Medley family, but all non-New Zealand). Architectural studies are of buildings in Cornwall, Oxford (England), and Fredericton and Campobello, both New Brunswick. Folder contains detailed inventory of all works contained. Inscriptions: Variously inscribed, often with title. Artist, born in England, probably Cornwall, but mostly raised in Canada. He travelled as a child during the 1850s around England, and returned to Fredericton, New Brunswick, where his father John Medley was the first bishop of Christ Church Cathedral. Physical Description: Sketchbook containing 13 works, with an additional 16 works inside back cover, book measuring 228 x 300 mm, additional works of various lesser dimensions, now housed between card and tissue. Provenance: Cranleigh Barton's great aunt was Mary Catherine Taylor who married Spencer Mansel Medley, a brother of Edward Shuttleworth Medley.

Description: Letterbook kept by Baker, containing copies of his letters written from Auckland, Wellington and Nuku'alofa in his capacity as Premier of Tonga. Entries cover various subjects. Include currency matters, land disputes, foreign consuls, the sale of Rabi Island, treaties with France, Hawai'i, United states and Britain, correspondence with Sir Arthur Gordon, Governor of New Zealand and previously Governor of Fiji, regarding possible annexation of Tonga, quarantine measures, financial dealings with Bank of New Zealand, smuggling of liquor into Tonga, complaints by foreign residents and other matters. From page 79 on are manuscript notes, sketch maps, mathematical calculations, school exercises and juvenile drawings made by the previous owners while they studied for School Certificate in New Zealand ca 1952.
