Description

Shows French explorers viewing Easter Island statues, observed by local people seated to the left. Derived from Godfrey de Vancy's engraving 'Insulaires at monumens de l'Ile de Paque' published in Voyage de La Perouse. Atlas No. II. (London, 1799)

Background details show considerable variation from the engraving from which this view has been copied, particularly in the landscape
