[Hone Harawira and the Maori Party]. 9 February 2011
- Date
- 2011
- Reference
- DCDL-0017115
- Description
Co-leaders of the Maori Party Tariana Turia and Pita Sharples struggle to paddle a waka upstream; they are towing Maori Party MP Hone Harawira who sits in a rubber ring that is tied to the waka by a rope and is perilously close to a waterfall. Pita Sharples says 'Not sure if this is any easier than when he was paddling backwards'. Context - criticisms of Maori Party policy and thinking by Hone Harawira has led to a complaint being laid against him by fellow Maori Party MP Te Ururoa Flavell. This means an investigation that could lead to expulsion for Hone or some sort of conciliation.
