- Description
Shows a young Maori man wearing a tag cloak, earring and a feather in his hair. He holds a brace of dead wood pigeons in his right hand. There is a tree trunk immediately behind him.
Similar to the watercolour in his Private journal of a four months cruise through some of the South Seas Islands and New Zealand in HMS Havannah; qMS-2081, opposite page 59 (negative number 1/2-145090). Hocken Library also has a similar work, with a possible attribution to Merrett. However the signature on our copy establishes Vigors as the artist, and seems to be by the same hand as the Hocken work.
