Postcard depicting the ceremony choosing the "first National Flag of New Zealand, by the Maori chiefs". The illustration includes James Busby, Maori chiefs and dignitaries. In the background is the ship `HMS Alligator'. Caption also notes that "This flag was adopted by Shaw Savill & Company as its House Flag in 1858 it having ceased to be the National Flag when New Zealand came under British sovereignty".
