An address of welcome to the Duke and Duchess of York in 1901, lamenting the death of Queen Victoria. Signed by Hone Heke, Wi Pere, E? or J? Carroll, Tame Parata, and H K Taiaroa. The whole image is in the form of a carved house, with fern leaves and a huia feather, and portraits of the Duke and Duchess above the lintel. Down the sides and along the bottom are panels of a decorative red and black pattern, and at the bottom corners are a portrait of a chief in feather cloak, and a scene within a pa showing a whare and carved poles.
Two copies held. Second copy is clearer than that that has been digitised, and has the title pasted beneath: "Address presented by the Maoris to Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York on the occasion of their visit to Rotorua, 13th June, 1901".

Extended Title - Welcome Kotuku (White heron - a bird rarely ever seen). Illustrious visitors (like Royalty) only ever visit once in a life time.
