The cartoon shows two angels standing on a cloud discussing the debate initiated by Prime Minister John Key with a statement about his intention that New Zealand should catch up economically with Australia by the year 2025. In a newspaper one of the angels reads that Alan Bollard, Governor of the Reserve Bank, believes that Australia has been endowed by God with plenty of minerals and that New Zealand can benefit from the crumbs of this natural wealth. The other angel explains that God endowed Australia thus because the 'Aussies need all they can get, but, the Kiwis know how to use their loaf...' The real problem here is that the government is considering allowing mining prospecting in New Zealand's national parks, something that many New Zealanders fear is the thin end of the wedge and could lead to the desecration of valuable natural resources.
