- Description
The cartoon shows Building Minister Maurice Williamson wearing a stained suit, holding a glass of beer and a cigarette and looking much the worse for wear as he does a 'Les Patterson' act. Refers to jokes about Muslims and Samoan overstayers that Maurice Williamson made at a ceremony at the New Zealand Institute of Building awards for excellence in the building industry on August 20 in Auckland. Sir Les Patterson is one of the alter-egos of Australian comedian Barry Humphries. Sir Les is famous for racist jokes like 'So whether you be Hun or Nip or Darkie, Raise your glass of lager, rum or Saki'.
