Three cows stand on a gravel road outside Christ Church in Russell, Northland. Shows the church cemetery, with gravestones, and the view down towards the township of Russell, facing towards the mainland. Houses can be seen in the background. In the foreground right, an AA signpost reads `Whangarei 54 3/4 miles' and `Post office 1/4 mile'. Photograph taken in Feb 1950, by K V Bigwood.
Other - Caption on back of original file print reads: "For the payment of a small yearly fee, and the provision of a bell round the bovine necks, local residents ease the burden of the Council in keeping the streets of Russell tidy."
