Description

Shows head and shoulders profiles of 2 Maori men, tattooed and with topknots.

Wahlen's book is an Italian translation of his "Moeurs, usages et coutumes de tous les peuples du monde..." Bruxelles, 1843-44. Vol. 4.

Compare this with A-119-025-a/026-a which is signed by the engraver MERCIER and is probably the first state. This unsigned version with damage or wear showing in the shading around the right shoulder of the upper figure is probably the second state
