- Description
Shows the battle scene at Elandslaagte, the ground rising to a ridge at the right where the Boer troops are being attacked. Their General Koch and Colonel Schiel are identified. The British troops are advancing from the left. The artist comments that he has shown the British troops in their home uniforms in order to make each regiment more distinguishable, although in fact most of the British troops fought in khaki. Labelled features are (from left): Elands Laagte Railway Station (left distance), General French and staff, Armoured train, Artillery, Imperial Light Horse, Gordon Highlanders, Manchesters, Devons, Cevalry, 5th Lancers and Dragoon Guards, Ambulance bearers, Major Harry Wright wounded, Trumpeter Sherlock shooting three Boers, Reserves under cover of ant-heaps.
The picture is cropped at the sides. At the extreme lower right the artist's first name initial "S." appears.
