- Description
A caricature of Alan Bollard the Governor of the Reserve Bank. Behind him small people in silhouette raise their fists and shout while he jambs a cork into a fizzing test tube. Context - The test tube fizz represents inflation and the people are those trying to influence Bollard's decision about whether to lower interest rates now or not. This cartoon and article were drawn and written the day before the decision was made to indeed lower interest rates. The cartoon was drawn to accompany an article by journalist Nick who thinks that Bollard's task, in contrast to the Government's, is to use monetary policy to deliver price stability and keep a lid on inflation.
