Description

Photographs associated with the Riddiford and Wardell families; also newspaper and magazine cuttings, and steel engravings collected by the families circa 1880s-1900s.

One large envelope, containing 8 smaller envelopes laid on the album in phase-box. Envelopes contain various items, originally loose inside the album. Each envelope states which pages between which the individual items were inserted.

There are a large number of items from English magazines such as Country Life and The English Sporting and Dramatic News, with particular interest in various aspects of farming (including cattle, sheep and different breeds of hens), and horse breeding and racing.

Portraits are partially identified, with most names listed above.

Wanganui Collegiate is seen, with rowing teams, rugby teams, and students including Dick Riddiford (Richard Erroll Wardell Riddiford), Dan Riddiford (Daniel Henry Strother Riddiford) and Horace Hewitt (Charles Horace Gervais Hewitt).

Inserted in two of the smaller envelopes are a collection of steel engravings (some by Thomas Allom, of Turkey), and one engraving by Goupil & Cie "Stengelin", of "A wooded farm at van der Sande" (See envelope from between pages 2-3, and envelope from between pages 20-21).
