Beatrice Mary Wardell (2nd daughter of Herbert Samuel Wardell of Newstead, Featherston), married Richard Riddiford (3rd son of Daniel Riddiford of Woburn, Lower Hutt) in 1881. Richard Riddiford died in 1885; Mary (then widow of Richard Riddiford), married John Macrae of Bowlands in 1893. Died in 1904 aged 40 years [Source: Online historical BDM]

Description: Scrap book containing photographs, newspapers cuttings, lithographs, and humorous magazine cuttings. There are 6 envelopes containing loose items from the album, including envelopes addressed to Mrs Richard Riddiford, Te Awaiti, Martinborough; and one to Herbert S Wardell, Club Hotel, Masterton.. There are a number of cuttings of wedding announcements, including one for the Riddiford-Wardell wedding (Richard Riddiford to Beatrice Mary Wardell), and one for Norman Beetham to Alice Mary Wardell), both in 1881. Description: Photographs associated with the Riddiford and Wardell families; also newspaper and magazine cuttings, and steel engravings collected by the families circa 1880s-1900s. One large envelope, containing 8 smaller envelopes laid on the album in phase-box. Envelopes contain various items, originally loose inside the album. Each envelope states which pages between which the individual items were inserted. There are a large number of items from English magazines such as Country Life and The English Sporting and Dramatic News, with particular interest in various aspects of farming (including cattle, sheep and different breeds of hens), and horse breeding and racing. Portraits are partially identified, with most names listed above. Wanganui Collegiate is seen, with rowing teams, rugby teams, and students including Dick Riddiford (Richard Erroll Wardell Riddiford), Dan Riddiford (Daniel Henry Strother Riddiford) and Horace Hewitt (Charles Horace Gervais Hewitt). Inserted in two of the smaller envelopes are a collection of steel engravings (some by Thomas Allom, of Turkey), and one engraving by Goupil & Cie "Stengelin", of "A wooded farm at van der Sande" (See envelope from between pages 2-3, and envelope from between pages 20-21).
