The cartoon shows several National Party MPs looking out of the windows of their Wellington 'homes'. The homes are stacked shipping containers positioned on the wharf. In the background is the harbour and the Beehive. Prime Minister, John Key, comments 'Oh well... at least it's the waterfront!'. The other MPs are Finance Minister, Bill English, Manukau East MP, Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, and Minister for Economic Development, Gerry Brownlee. Text above reads 'Ministers' Wellington accommodation perks to be downgraded' which refers to the allowances row that has seen some MPs making extravagant claims which have a 'bad look' in these stringent recession times. The choice of containers is a nice touch as the use of shipping containers for the overflowing prison population has been mooted by the government.
