Eyewitness account of the trial and execution of the slave Kati for the murder of Henry Biddle at Hokianga. The British Resident James Busby presided at the trial and White gives a detailed account. Kati was shot by the chief Pangari with the approval of the local chiefs, including Nene, in the first case of the murder of a European by a Maori. Other accounts are provided by William Colenso, William Woon and Nathaniel Turner.
