- Description
A grumpy man representing 'NZ Saving' stands in water up to his ankles as the rain pours down from thunder clouds that represent 'fine promises'. He is reading a newspaper that says 'Kiwisaver "affordable in sunshine"'. Context - The government intends reducing its contributions to the KiwiSaver scheme - worth up to $20 a week - while retaining the $1000 kick-start. It is not yet known by how much the government tax credit will be reduced - whether it will be slashed, shaved or halved and whether the cuts will be across the board. Mr Key is taking his biggest risk is in turning superannuation into a political football again and tinkering with a love affair that has always been about more than individual nest eggs anyway. The ASB's head of private banking and wealth management Jonathan Beale says 'Fund balances are growing, and the KiwiSaver scheme has proven to be a successful way of turning around the poor savings habits of many New Zealanders'.
