A man pouring balm from a small bottle on the wounds of robbed man in a bush landscape. A dog is on the left, a horse on the right. Three other men are in the background
From a very large painting completed in 1737 by Hogarth, in situ, in the stairwell at St Batholomew's Hospital, London, a companion-piece to The pool at Bethesda. The story is based on a parable in St Luke's Gospel, Chapter 10, verse 30.
