Bird flu hits France - News. "Bring me anything but chicken soup..." 28 February, 2006.

- Description
A French cockerel wearing a night cap sits up in bed demanding that he be brought anything but chicken soup. The reference is to the fact that tests had confirmed the presence of an H5 bird flu virus at a turkey farm in the east of France and tests for the H5N1 strain were still under way. If confirmed, the case would mark the first time the H5N1 virus had spread to domestic fowl in the European Union and could deal a further blow to France's already battered poultry industry, worth 6 billion euros ($NZ10.71 billion) a year and the biggest in the bloc.
