Description: Contains photographs and photographic copies of paintings illustrating Te Rangihaeata's house on Mana Island, Waitahanui Pa at Lake Taupo, meeting houses at Waihi (Taupo), Wairoa, Te Wairoa (Rotorua), Otaki, Ohinemutu, Morrinsville, Waiomatatini, Pokai, Whakarewarewa, Tokaanu, Koroniti and Thames. Also shown are a gateway at Te Teko and the gateway to a church at Nuhaka. The artists and photographers represented are G F Angas, A P Godber, A N Palmer, William Hall Raine, George Heron, Owen Johnston, E Edwards, and the New Zealand Railways Publicity Department. Description: Maori correspondence mostly from the Whanganui district relating tribal activities, affairs and matters relating to land. Includes lists of names for Maori living at Parewanui; report from a meeting between Governor Grey, Major Kemp (Te Ranghiwinui), and various hapu from Whanganui; a letter about Epiha Patapu, native policeman from Whanganui who gave an oath of allegience to the Queen. Also includes letter from Wikitoa Taringakuri (aka Te Kaeaea) offering to sell large amounts of land in Wellington because of his extreme age and inability to collect the rents of his properties. Description: Portrait of a man identified as Tuka Orangi of Koriniti. He is wearing a korowai and holding a patu (kotiate) in his right hand. He has short white hair, a moustache, and a moko. Photograph taken by William Henry Thomas Partington, circa 1900, probably at Wanganui. Also identified as Hairawanui (1/2-008301); and as Tuka Aorangi of Ngati Pamona, Koroniti or Hirawanu of Ranana (Whanganui Museum Collection) Note on back of file print - Tuka Orangi (Koroniti), grandfather of John Tuka.
