Description: Cadastral map of the entrance of Kaipara Harbour, from the Waionui Inlet, Papakanui Spit, South Head down to Mairetahi. Several placenames are given along the eastern coastline, Kawau, Pararaha, Waipiro, Haratai, Te Pua, Waioneke, Onumotu, Taumata, Karukanihui. Four areas are highlighted and their acreage given: Okaka (1851), Whiritoa (1558), Waioneke (5500), and Mairetahi (6300). Description: Cadastral map, with topographical information, of the Taupo District, showing numbered Maori land blocks. Includes the area from Te Poua Kani, eastwards to Te Kowhatu Whakairo, southwards to the Mohaka River and Mangatainoko, and westwards to Te Kohatu. Land blocks sited include Kaimanawa, Tapapa, Te Matai, Wharetoto, Waikare Mohaka, Runanga, Pohokura, Tauhara, Tauranga, Pukahunui, Kaingaroa, Paeroa, Whakamaru, Maraetai and Okahukura. Description: Manuscript map of the Aorangi Maori Reserve, Hastings District, bordering the Mangatahi Stream and the Ngaruroro River. Adjoining the reserve's right boundary is a note 'boundary line marked out by a provincial surveyor' and an area higlighted in yellow, with the note 'claimed by Natives and sold by Commissioner of Crown Lands to H Smith'. Adjoining this on the right is an area highlighted in pink, with the note 'granted to A Domett'. Description: Cadastral map from Kohatu Point (below Hokianga Harbour) north to Ahipara Bay and east to Lake Ohea, Mangonui and south to the Bay of Islands. Shows named land blocks denoting ownership, with colour coding distinguishing properties owned by settler and Maori. Over 20 [Native] reserves are named and numbered, such as Whangatauatia Reserve, 62.1.0 [acres], No.7 (some are un-named); some blocks of land are named in Maori, some of which denote acreage such as Rawene 1957 acres. Most Maori land includes acreage, while settler land does not. Many Pakeha blocks have surnames included. Church Missionary Society landed is depicted as C.M.S. A large Church Mission block is also depicted. Annotations on map include 'disputed' land in 'Shepherd' block (named 'Mokau') and in 'Horeke' block (in fountain pen). Description: Topographic map of the area from the Whareama River to Ohiaruhe, the Puketoi Range, Wahatuara and the Waimate Stream to the coast. Shows the Castle Point Block sold by Wairarapa Maori to the Crown in 1853, giving the boundaries of the block, reserves and pa sites; the size of the block sold and of the reserves are also recorded. Many Maori placenames and natural features have been identified, especially around the boundaries of the block; this may be related to the Maori system of identifying land boundaries by naming geographical features at boundary points The Castle Point Block was sold by Wairarapa Maori (principally Te Hika o Papauma) to McLean, assisted by Te Hapuku of Hawke's Bay, in 1853; it marked the beginning of wholesale land sales in the area. Description: Manuscript map of the Borough of Napier as at 1899 including the Tutae o Mahu Block and the Pukeroa Block, Tareha's [Maori] Reserve, Tareha's bridge, the Tutaekuri River, mud flats and the Napier-Taradale Road. The Spit Railway Station and the Napier Railway Station are shown. Land edged in red is the land described in the third schedule to the Napier Harbour Board Amendment and Endowment Improvement Act of 1897 and refered to in the Bill. Land edged in green is land described in the fourth schedule to the Act of 1887 and referred to in the bill. The land coloured yellow is the land described in the schedule to the above bill. Description: Cadastral map of the Pito-one Town Board, showing sections 1-8 and 79, street layout, property boundaries, numbered residential sections, dwellings, railways, businesses and cemeteries. The town is divided into the west and north east wards, and is bounded by sections 19, 78 (Te Raho Kapawai), 16, 17, 9 and 10 and the Maungaraki Native (Maori) reserve. The map includes a large Public Works Department, the Pito-one Station, a brewery, timber yard, the Gear Company Works and wharf, Marine Retreat Hotel, woollen factory, schools, Wainuiomata waterworks main, Waltonville, the Working Men's Club, Oddfellows Hall, churches, and two Maori cemeteries (urupa) along the esplanade. Settler names include Grahame, six separate blocks totalling over 833 acres, Greenwood, four blocks totally over 468 acres, Nixon, four blocks of over 420 acres, Gitti's, 1000 acres, Fairburn, Bagston, and 184 acres bought 'for some person in England'. Description: Cadastral map depicting several lots of reserved land and purchased land for named Maori owners. Some text on the titles show money is still outstanding for the land, such as '200 acres reserve for Hone Ropika and party 100 acres to be paid for', some reserved land refers to a list, such as 'Reserve of 500 acres for te Ropiha and his relatives as per list'. There are '75 acres reserve for ?Kirikupu te Haewiriana and Ihaia for natives at Nelson'. One piece of text mentions claims: '40 acres reserve for Hopataiha in consideration of all claims balance over 40 acres to be paid for'. Description: Consists of two maps, one on each side of the sheet, both surveying a Native (Maori) Reserve between Russell Terrace and Adelaide Road, Newtown (near Berhampore), Wellington. Map one, 'Survey of N[ative] R[eserve] Newtown' shows survey measurements and markings across area named Newtown and survey compass measurements in a 360 degree circle. Includes the names Matene and Ihaka. Map two, '[Native (Maori) Reserve sections bounded by Adelaide Road, South Road, Russell Terrace and Wharepori Road, Newtown, Wellington, showing Maori owners]'. Shows one acre sections, part surveyed, numbered 972 - 989 and 994 - 1007. Also marks Reserve no. 215 alongside Section 971. Description: Sketchmaps of land near Ormondville, southern Hawkes Bay, depicting part of the boundary of the Eparaima Maori Reserve, the Tauraekaetai, the Hua Tukituki and the Ohinehua Streams, a road, bush, and fern hills. The first is a sketch of 'Paul's Native (Maori) reserve', which runs from Ormondville, over grass flats, between the Tauraekaetai and Ohinehua Streams, and includes bush on both sides of the Hua Tukituki stream, to a vertical boundary point. Across the boundary is bush designated for 'white people'. On the second map of the same area, entitled 'Reserve as it w[oul]d be available for white people', the boundary is horizontal and located two-thirds along the Tauraekaetai Stream. The area above the boundary is marked 'all good bush'; the area below is marked 'good bush available for white people'. Description: Cadastral map with topographical information of the Masterton, Carterton and South Wairarapa districts from the eastern coast at Castlepoint westwards to the Tararua and Rimutaka Ranges and southwards to Palliser Bay. Coloured areas of the map refer to the reference key; namely Native reserves, Native lands, land under negotiation and Crown land. Over 50 streams have Maori names. Settlements such as Featherston, Greytown, Carterton are indicated. Several settler names are associated with land ownership, including Riddiford, Baxton's, Cameron's, Moores, Guthries, Telfords, Luxfords, Vallance's, Russell, Donalds, Gillies, Bidwill.
