Offer material to the Alexander Turnbull Library form

The Alexander Turnbull Library appreciates the generosity of individuals, whānau and organisations, whose gifts enrich our collections for the benefit of researchers everywhere. Use the form below to offer items to the Alexander Turnbull Library.

Process when you offer items to us

Complete and submit the form on this page. Supply as much detail as possible about the items. Digital photographs are always helpful so we can see the content and condition of the items.

We will review your offer and contact you to advise whether the items meet our selection and acquisition criteria. We assess all offers in relation to our current collecting plans.

We aim to maintain a representative balance within our collections and may not be able to accept all items offered. We co-operate with other collecting institutions around the country and may refer you to another museum, library, or archive.

Talk to us before you bring items in

Before bringing items into the Library complete the form and arrange an appointment with relevant curatorial staff. We cannot accept items brought to the Library without an appointment.

Ownership

When items are accepted into the Alexander Turnbull Library's collections, legal ownership transfers to the New Zealand Crown and the items are held by the Alexander Turnbull Library in perpetuity.

We ask those offering items to the Library to ensure they are the legal owners or have the delegated authority to offer the items on behalf of an organisation, business, whānau, family or other body.
