Collection of researcher and Librarian Margaret Shirley Anderson. Predominantly research relating to the 1864 Battle of Moutoa and 1964 centenary of events. Comprises research and publication correspondence, facsimiles of manuscripts from research collections including Alexander Turnbull Library, newspaper cuttings, booklets, handwritten notes, photographic prints, and negatives. Also includes research material related to the 1881 invasion of Parihaka, Māori chants and English translations, and papers relating to the history of the Wanganui Public Library and the Wanganui Region.

Description: Two manilla folders labelled "4. Battle" and "V Aftermath" and some loose papers, comprising research notes, photocopies, newspaper clippings and correspondence relating to Anderson's research into the 1864 Battle of Moutoa and the Moutoa flag. Two clean copies and one copy with annotations (by Anderson?) of the 'Battle of Moutoa Island, May 14 1864' booklet published by the Moutoa Centennial Committee in 1964. Accompanying this booklet is manuscript of a Māori "chant sung by Pehi Turoa, when he came down river in canoe pleading with people to let him land; and was abused and pelted with refuse". Also includes two photographs (numbered 19 and 20) by an unidentified photographer taken at Moutoa Gardens on 17 May 1964. Title supplied by Library. Correspondence refers to items belonging to Anderson being lent for a museum display and photographs given to Anderson by Mr Denton (possibly Frank James Denton). The two Denton photographs have captions inscribed "39. Tawhitinui, Wanganui R. Denton." and "36 Moutoa Island. Denton.".
