Paul Gandar, one of the executors and acting on behalf of the estate, stated that his father's papers had been willed to either Massey University or Alexander Turnbull Library. Massey University feels that they would be more usefully stored here and that researchers would not think of looking for them at Massey. They have therefore declined to take them.

It is understood that while Prime Ministerial and Cabinet Ministerial papers are supposed to go to National Archives, under the circumstances (a bequest, together with Mr Gandar's close NL/ATL connections) they would not oppose such an acquisition.

Former chairman of the National Library committee and a Friend of the Turnbull Library from 1984.
