Established in 1841 and part of the Wellington Diocese, St James is the oldest Anglican church in the Hutt Valley. Vestry minutes and other records relating to the period 1915-1946 were destroyed in the fire which gutted St James Church in 1946

Processing information: Thirteen St James marriage registers covering the period 1856-1869, 1881-1889, 1890-1904, 1909-1912, 1912-1915, 1916-1920, 1920-1921, 1921-1924, 1924-1926, 1926-1927, 1927-1928, 1928-1930 and 1930-1932 were deposited in the Wellington Diocesan records and are currently located in MS-Papers-1925. Some crucial records have been destroyed or damaged by fire. See inventory for details.
