Description

The collection is divided into two parts, Part One, being the Mansfield collection; Part Two, being the personal papers of Guy and Maude.

Part One is the larger section. The largest series within this part consists of correspondence and chronological files. Another important series is that of the scrapbooks and photo albums which relate to Mansfield's stories, family and places she visited within New Zealand. Some of the material in this part comprises copies of original Mansfield material held in the Alexander Turnbull Library.

Part Two contains typescripts of Guy's short stories submitted to various publishers, a series of notebooks on topics of general interest kept by Maude, ephemeral material collected by Maude during her university days and obituaries and other newspaer cuttings of a biographical nature

Guy Morris was regarded as an authority on Katherine Mansfield. In 1936 he began collecting available information on her life, works and her family and friends. Following his death in 1949, the collection was continued by his wife Maude

Provenance: As early as 1937, Guy had suggested bequeathing his Mansfield collection to the Turnbull Library. After his death, however, Maude continued the collection, which was finally purchased by the Library on 21 February 1979 from Mrs Susan Graham, a daughter of Guy and Maude
