Description

Collection of paintings of New Zealand scenes and flora by Mary Wills, nee Wykes, wife of minister John Wills. Album dated 1885 on inside cover, with the artist's maiden name. One watercolour is identified as being painted in 1886, the year she married.

Album cover is printed and blind-stamped in gold and black, depicting the word 'Album' and an early 19th-century head-and-shoulders picture of a woman. Maker of the album unknown

Size of watercolours varies; several paintings are loose rather than adhered to album pages

Description: A view across Lake Rotoroa, in Hamilton. On a rise above the opposite bank is the Lake House, designed and built about 1872. Two smaller buildings sit further to the right, on the shores of the lake. A small, lone yacht sails on the water.
