Description: The cartoon which is in an oval frame shows Prime Minister Jim Bolger grimacing in agony as Winston Peters gets behind him 'I'm right behind you, Jim!' in a rugby scrum and grabs him where it hurts. Context - Probably association with New Zealand's holding its first MMP elections in 1996. New Zealand First, led by Winston Peters, ended up holding the balance of power. Description: On the summit of a small mountain a group of businessmen delight ('isn't it beautiful') in the 'Dawn of recovery' as they watch a golden '$' symbol rise above the horizon. In a huge trench at the base of the mountain ordinary citizens remain in the dark. Context - The beginnings of recovery for some of the wealthy after the 1987 sharemarket crash that caused many people to lose savings. At bottom of cartoon in pencil is the text 'Listener Sept 23, page 9, reduce to 187 mm x 132 mm, colour, no border'. Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s). Description: Prime Minister David Lange and Finance Minister Roger Douglas both wear swimming shorts and sit on a beach in deckchairs sipping long drinks. David Lange says 'I feel an urge to say something really profound and meaningful, but I can't think of a damned thing' and Roger Douglas says 'Me neither'. Description: The cartoon is in the form of a comic strip in six frames. In the first frame someone smells smoke; in the second frame Phil Goff appears as Superman and says 'Holysmoke!? Some fiend has polluted the petrol of Godzone with neuro-toxin....?! and in the third frame he continues 'and its turning the children of the city into raving maniacs....!?!' In the fourth frame 'Later in the day at the energy office... a man (Bob Tizard) says 'Stay out of this, Boy Wonder! This is my turf!' In the fifth frame Phil Goff says 'Aha!... That's where you're wrong, Minister!... and in the sixth frame he adds 'I just happen to be... Protector of the Environment!! Tizard says 'Smarmy little brat!' Context - Phil Goff was Minister for the Environment from February 1986 to August 1987 while Bob Tizard was Minister of Energy. Something to do with lead in petrol? Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s).
