The land is fenced and there are cows grazing adjacent to the house Taken from the Vincent Brooks lithograph of 'A "bush" section on Green Island, Otago (Fox Lodge)', which appears in C.F. Hursthouse's 'New Zealand, or Zealandia, the Britain of the South' (London: Stanford, 1857), p.239. Stephenson Smith Esq.re New Plymouth ...), attributed to the subject's wife and published in Hursthouse's 1857 work, three years before this work is dated On the verso are four pencil drawings of non-New Zealand scenes, probably England. Description: A large, two-storey house overlooking what is probably Karaka Bay in Auckland. An expansive, flat lawn with a path leading to the house can be seen, and the house is surrounded by bush, mature pine, cabbage trees and flax bushes Possibly after Charles James Urquhart, 1834-1909, who lived in Taranaki and drew his house there in the 1860s (A-159-009, [My wharrie, Taranaki. ca 1860]. Urquhart was in the 65th Regiment, as was Major Murray, whose house is noted by this artist in A-457-008-2 'Ghur' or ghar is the Hindi word for a house.
