Description: A programme for the New Zealand championship sports meeting at Powell's Pool Grounds, Sutton Park. Page [3] shows a portrait photograph of Lieut-Colonel J A Mackenzie, commanding "D" group, NZEF, Sutton Park. The events included 100 yards races, 220 yards, hammer throwing, shot putting, relay race, alarm race, 88o yards, high jump, tug-of-war, long jump, 1 mile, Maori haka, pillow fighting, tilting the bucket, obstacle race, hurdles, 440 yards, 7-mile cross-country, girls' races, sack race, bandsmen's race, donkey race, ladies' race, woodchopping. Description: A flyer listing the events at a sports day for Wellington Anniversary Day, 22 January 1845: Anniversary fete (listing committee members Barnes, Jenkins, Watt, Sea, Bannaytine, Hickson, Ludlam, Rhodes, Wade, R Baker, Mathieson, Sutton, Petre, G Young, Clifford, G Moore, R Davis, Alzdorf, Couper, Suistead, Fuller, A Hort, Dorset) Sailing match by boats under 30 feet keel - boats belonging to Mr Houghton, Mr Foster, Mr Watt Whaleboat race Hurdle race: requiring a minimum of three horses: owners included Mr Hunter, Colonel Wakefield, Mr Ludlam, Mr Suistead Hack race - including horses entered by Mr G Taylor, Mr Sutton, Mr Bannister, Mr Wade, Mr Revan, Mr Dorset, Mr Rhodes Rural sports: jumping in sacks, donkey race, etc. On the following days, further events were to be held: races for beaten horses, and Mr Jenkins' foot race There are two block print illustrations: at top left two horses competing in a galloping race; a sailing ship Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s).
