Includes preparations of the pit and the firewalking, various dances and the presentation of a ceremonial drink to the Fijian Commissioner, Mr Leslie Brown. Other dignatories present, although not clearly identified by captions on reverse of prints.

Fifty one Fijian men represented their country at the Exhibition in Christchurch in 1906-07. They came from Fiji in two parties. The first group of twenty five were made up of men from various of the Fijian Islands. They arrived in Christchurch on the fifteenth of November 1906 in charge of Mr W A Scott, Assistant Native Commissioner, and led by Ratu Ifereimi. They built the Fijian house in the exhibition grounds and presented a variety of cultural performances.
The second party of twenty six men arrived on the 13th of December 1906 in the charge of Mr A M Duncan of Suva. They were all fire walkers of the Sawau Tribe of Beqa (Benga), an island south of Viti Levu where these rites have been taditionally practiced. Their leader was Kalebi (Caleb) who was chief of the Sawau district. The fire walkers ranged in age from about 24 to 50. Their first performance was on the seventeenth of December 1906
