Contains diaries, which he kept from 1856 until 1902. Also two large scrapbooks, correspondence and papers relating to his son, Edward, and to his mother, Angela Attwood. The diaries cover his work as a surveyor around Christchurch, his return to England and life there while the correspondence with Edward offers insight into parent-child relations of the period. The later volumes, along with the scrapbooks, contain a large amount of photographs, illustrations and clippings. His interest in the Attwood family is reflected throughout the collection
