Description: View of Baring Head Lighthouse under construction. Photographed by an Eveneing post staff photographer in March 1934. Lighthouse sited on Baring Head which is situated on the south coast of the North Island of New Zealand about halfway between the entrance to Wellington Harbour and Palliser Bay. It replaced the Pencarrow light and became operational in 1935. It was the first lighthouse in New Zealand to use electricity to power its light which was automated in 1989.
