Comprises cassettes of music recordings collected by Radio Active 89FM between 1980 and 1998. Contains demo tapes, pre-release or live recordings by New Zealand bands and performers. Performers include David Eggleton, Garageland, King Loser, Sam Manzanza, Shihad, Sneaky Feelings, Supergroove, and Paul Ubana Jones, as well as many other artists and groups, both well-known and unfamiliar. Collection also contains original paper listing of tapes provided by Radio Active and a folder of business cards, notes, and other ephemera.

Radio Active 89FM began broadcasting in 1977 as the radio station for the Victoria University of Wellington Students' Association. It became a commercial radio station in 1989. In 2016 it broadcasts on 88.6FM and is known as RadioActive.
