Description

A Gillespie won prizes for begonias, fine foliage plants, primulas, table bouquets, and cut flowers.

The 1875 cards are lithographed by W C Wilson, Auckland, and the 1880 card is lithographed by Herald litho.

Note from a descendant, Jean Erbacher (28 October 2008), indicates that A Gillespie is likely to have been Mr Alexander Gillespie, the head gardener at Government House in Auckland at that time.

Description: An arrangement of ornate lettering decorated with floral borders. Note from a descendant, Jean Erbacher (28 October 2008), indicates that A Gillespie is likely to have been Mr Alexander Gillespie, the head gardener at Government House in Auckland at that time. Exhibited in ‘Humble: the life of 100 small objects’, exhibition curated by Barbara Lyon, in the Turnbull Gallery, National Library of New Zealand, 27 August - 17 November 2017.
