Description: Centre foreground: Nurses Home, built in 1928. Foreground left: "Vailima" built in 1899 as resident doctors house. At this time it was used as a convalescent ward for women. Upper background left: Three villas built for female patients in 1926. Below them are the "Lower Buildings" constructed between 1900-1910.Upper background right: Two villas built for male patients in 1926. Centre right is an open space where the central part of the old main building stood. This building was constructed between 1891-1900. It was demolished following the 1942 earthquakes. At the back and along the nearside of this space: Four two storied villas constructed between 1945-1949 as part of the rebuilding programme. In front of these and surrounding a central chimney are buildings constructed 1937-1938, comprising a boiler house, store, administration and workshops. Photographer unidentified.
