- Description
A personal record of family, friends, holidays, nurses, hospitals and soldiers. The New Zealand content is just part of the record of Audrey Beeton's life between 1914 and 1924. Overall the albums give a view of the well off middle class life of a woman whose father was a knight and whose husband was a Royal Navy surgeon and an antarctic explorer. If Audrey Beeton was a nurse at the St George's Hill auxiliary hospital, it is likely that she volunteered as part of the war effort. There are no photos of her in nurses uniform. The impression is much more that of a daughter of the local gentry taking a patriotic and practical interest in the health, welfare and comfort of the troops, but with plenty of time to take part in week end house parties and lawn tennis.
Arrangement: Albums at PA1-o-853 to PA1-o-856
Audrey Beeton, creator of the collection, was in some way associated with the brick house through family or friends. Her home was probably 'Duneevan', the other house that features throughout the albums.
Quantity: 4 album(s).
