The documents mostly relate to land purchased in the NZ Company settlement of Port Nicholson. Series one consists of conveyances and enfeoffments, series two of leases, and series three of powers of attorney given by English purchasers. A fourth series consists primarily of documents relating to the career of Robert Hart, one of Treadwells' first partners.
Some of the legal documents include examples of Maori moko.
