Mandl, Joseph, 1836-

Brewer. Mayor of Hokitika. He was born and educated in Austria, and went to Victoria, Australia in about 1860, and from there to New Zealand where he worked on the Tuapeka and Waitahuna gold fields. He then went to Hokitika, working as a storekeeper at Blue Spur and then in Fitzherbert Street Hokitika. He was elected mayor of Hokitika in 1889, 1890-1891 and 1895-1896.
